Smartphone based rail tickets coming to Boston this fall
By
More and more often we are starting to realize the immense potential of having internet in your pocket, with many organizations taking advantage. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) is ready to become one of them in the fall.
Massabi, a ticketing systems manufacturer, has announced that they will be working with the MBTA to allow the riders the ability to buy tickets right from their Android, BlackBerry or iPhone, with the device then displaying a barcode for the crew to scan. This is expected to help make the MBTA more efficient and reduce costs, which would come in handy because the transit authority is struggling with a $185 million deficit. The app will be tested over the summer and is expected to make its debut in the Fall.
