iOS and Android beat the PC revolution, the .com boom and social networks in growth

Android iOS growth

Apple and the various Android manufacturers have been fiercely competing in the marketplace and in the courtroom, but what they’ve done together is truly amazing.

According to Flurry Analytics, there are over 640 million devices running iOS and Android apps, after huge growth in developing nations from July 2011 to July 2012. Below are the growth percentages in that time period by country.

China: 401%
Chile: 279%
Brazil: 220%
Argentina: 217%
Iran: 196%
Vietnam: 193%
Mexico: 194%
Russia: 189%
Turkey: 185%
India: 171%

These growth numbers are 10 times greater than those of the 1980s PC revolution, 2 times greater than the Internet boom of the 1990s and 3 times greater than the recent rise of social networks, making these two the fastest growing technology in history. These are only numbers for Android and iOS, so the growth of smartphone usage is even greater if you count Blackberry and Windows Phone, which is sure to start really catching up after Windows 8 is upon us.
