Blackberry officially the coolest brand in South Africa

RIM has been getting its rear end handed to it by Apple, Google and Microsoft in Europe and the Americas, but there are still parts of the world where Blackberry is cool.

Sunday Times Generation Next Brand Awards is an annual brand survey held in South Africa to officially decide what brands are the coolest in the country. There are 73 categories overall, with the nation’s youth (8-22) casting their ballots. This year, RIM has won first place with BlackBerry, followed by BMW at #2 and Coca-Cola at #3. Just goes to show that marketing is a deadly weapon in the smartphone industry. The announcement was made via Twitter (original tweet further down). Interestingly, Apple is at the bottom of the top 5. How can you not be cool when you carry an iPhone 4S in a case that tries this hard ?
